Prompt
One instruction for one request. Fast, but usually dependent on the current conversation.
Blog · Claude Skills · business · small teams
A Claude Skill does not replace your team. It packages a method, examples, templates and optional scripts so Claude can perform a task consistently without rebuilding the context in every conversation.

Anthropic describes Skills as folders containing instructions, scripts and resources. Claude first reads their descriptions, then loads the useful content when a task matches. This progressive disclosure keeps the full manual out of every conversation.
One instruction for one request. Fast, but usually dependent on the current conversation.
A workspace with shared documents and instructions for a topic or team.
A portable method with rules, examples, templates, references and dedicated checks.
1 · Trigger
State the task, when the Skill should be used and which cases it does not cover.
2 · Guide
Describe the steps, expected inputs, decision rules and final output format.
3 · Demonstrate
Include one good result and one edge case. A rule is easier to apply when an example shows it.
4 · Equip
Use the quote template, editorial guide or naming system your team already follows.
5 · Check
Before returning work, the Skill checks required fields, figures and sensitive claims.
Anthropic also provides a Skill Creator to help build and improve Skills. Write the business method first. Tooling comes second.
Sales
Reads the discovery-call notes.
Fills your proposal structure.
Flags missing inputs and leaves every amount for approval.

Separates facts, decisions and assumptions.
Assigns every action to an owner.
Refuses to invent a missing deadline.
Marketing
Applies your style guide and banned terms.
Adapts the message to channel and reader.
Checks links and claims before delivery.
Pick a task that returns at least weekly and can already be explained by one person. Gather three real inputs, the expected result and the mistakes that waste time. Write the Skill, test it on those cases, then give it to a colleague who did not design it.
Measure rework time, detected errors, correctly refused cases and the share of outputs accepted without heavy editing. If the Skill only moves work into review, simplify it.
To teach the method to your team, start with Claude training for business. To connect it to your tools, see custom AI agents.
Record who changed the method, why and which examples were retested.
Expose only the documents required. Remove secrets, HR data and unrelated client information.
Prices, contracts, hiring, health and credit remain approved by a qualified person.
Do not build one for a rare task, a process that changes every week or a decision nobody can explain. A one-off prompt, a Claude Project or a process audit will cost less to maintain.
The wrong move is collecting twenty Skills before measuring one. The useful target is one Skill the team uses, tests and improves.
A Claude Skill is a folder of instructions, resources and optional scripts that Claude loads when a task matches. It turns a working method into a reusable capability.
A saved prompt mainly contains an instruction. A Skill can package a method, examples, templates, references and scripts, then load only what the task needs.
Not for a simple Skill based on instructions and templates. Code becomes useful when the Skill must process files, run checks or produce a strict output format.
Assign an owner, limit accessible data, test the Skill on known cases, version changes and keep human approval for sensitive decisions.
