Claude Team vs Enterprise: which plan fits your business?

Claude Team is enough for many small businesses that need shared work and basic administration. Enterprise becomes useful when you need directory integration, audit trails, custom retention or a large controlled rollout.

Short answer

Start with Team unless a security requirement says otherwise

For five users or more, Claude Team covers a practical group pilot: member management, shared work and standard or premium seats. Move to Enterprise only when a named requirement justifies it.

Team

Small group, known use cases, simple administration and internal policies.

Enterprise

SSO, provisioning, audit logs, finer access control or custom retention requirements.

Comparison

The criteria that actually change the decision

1 · Size

Team starts at five members

A first pilot can include an owner, an AI lead and a few people who perform the target work every week.

2 · Identity

Enterprise connects to account management

If joiners and leavers must flow through your directory with SSO and central provisioning, Enterprise removes manual account handling.

3 · Control

Audit and retention requirements are the real trigger

Internal control, access records and custom retention rules are concrete reasons to move beyond Team.

4 · Adoption

The plan does not create a working method

Neither plan decides what staff may upload, how outputs are checked or who approves sensitive decisions. You still need those rules.

Cost

Compare seat cost with rollout cost

Anthropic public pricing checked on October 26, 2026. Claude Team is listed at 25 dollars per user per month with annual billing, or 30 dollars with monthly billing, with a five-seat minimum. Enterprise uses seat-based pricing and can be purchased through self-service or sales depending on the deployment.

The full budget also includes scoping, data rules, training, shared templates and adoption reviews. Ten licences without a chosen process often deliver less than a five-person pilot on three measurable tasks.

Anthropic states that data from its commercial products is not used to train its models by default. You still need limits on uploaded data, contract checks and human approval.

Rollout

The pilot I recommend for a small business

Week 1

Choose three tasks

One document to summarise.

One client reply to draft.

One checkable output per task.

Week 2

Write the rules

Allowed and forbidden data.

Mandatory human checks.

An owner for each shared template.

Week 3

Measure before expanding

Time saved per task.

Errors and rework.

Choose Team or Enterprise from evidence.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Team enough for a small business?

Yes, in many cases. It suits a first group of at least five people when the business does not need SSO, central provisioning, audit logs or custom retention controls.

When should a business choose Claude Enterprise?

Choose Enterprise when a specific requirement justifies it: central identity management, advanced access controls, audit, compliance, custom retention or a large rollout.

Does Anthropic train on Claude Team data?

Anthropic says data from its commercial products is not used to train models by default. The business still needs an approved-data policy and contract and compliance checks.
